These beautiful handmade Shamanic drums are made to order with natural hide and traditionally hand cut lacing and made in a mindful way, in ceremony and with an individual blessing.
Goddess Handle
This is one of our original handle styles, developed by Jonathan Weekes of Heron Drums, to honour the image of the divine feminine within European pagan traditions in the form of the full bellied Goddess. Please let us know if you have a preference of crystal to be bound into the handle.
Choice of Hides
The Horse
Horse hide is generally darker in colour
The Horse is a symbol of moving forward with power and determination and is connected with the old horse goddess of Britain, Epona, and the story of Rhiannon. The Shamanic Drum is also known as the “Shaman’s Horse” as the Shaman rides on the back of the rhythm into the journey. As such, horse drums are often great as journeying drums.
The Reindeer
Reindeer is often a cream colour
The Reindeer is a gentle spirit and a great healer and is associated with the ancient British goddess Elen, talked about in the old Welsh folk tales. Reindeer drums are often great journeying drums or personal drums.
Included with Your Bespoke Shamanic Drum
Each bespoke drum also comes with a handmade beater and a protective drum bag included in the price.
Our signature canvas drum bag is fleece lined to help protect the drum during travel and storage, while also making it easier to carry your drum safely to circles, ceremonies, workshops, and gatherings.
Your beater is individually selected to accompany the drum itself, using carefully selected materials chosen to complement the tone, feel, and character of the drum.
Size
With regard to SIZE, generally, the larger the drum is, the deeper the tone is.
Processing Time
Each Bespoke Shamanic Drum is individually prepared and made to order, currently take up to 3-4 months to prepare, birth and allow to dry completely before sending on to you.
Sustainability
At Heron Drums, we work with natural materials and animal hides - this way the strength and the spirit of the animal and the tree live on and its heartbeat will take so many on beautiful journeys. All of the hides and hoops for our shamanic drums are ethically and sustainably sourced, meaning that the hides are sourced from wild culled stags, where the hides are otherwise discarded, and the wood for the hoops is from sustainably managed forests. Because of this, patterns and styles will vary.
With your drum, you will also receive a drum beater that has been especially paired with the drum to best bring out its voice.
